    Hyannis shortstop Zach Rutherford came away with MVP honors for the West Division with a home run, double and a pair of RBIs, leading his team to an 8-0 win over the East in the 2016 Friendly's Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game held at Chatham's Veterans Field on Saturday, July 23. Rutherford's big day made a winner out of his own manager, Chad Gassman, who piloted the West team to victory. The West got all the runs they would need in the second inning with a trio of solo home runs.

There were three persons beside Miss H in the house, but if they heard the noise made by the burglar they attributed it to another cause, and so did not molest him.

CCBL Senior Vice President and Hall of Fame Committee member Jim Higgins announced the incoming class on Sunday during the league's First Pitch Brunch held at 99 Restaurant & Pub in West Yarmouth. St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong, who played on the Cape for the Orleans Cardinals, and former MLB pitcher Mark Petkovsek, who hurled for St. Louis, Anaheim and Texas and was a two-year performer with the Chatham Anglers, will be among the hall of fame headliners.

    An enthusiastic crowd was on hand as players from the Academy of Performing Arts hit the yellow brick road last weekend for the opening of the “Wizard of Oz,” on stage through March 26 at the Academy Playhouse in Orleans. There aren't many folks who haven't seen the original Judy Garland movie umpteen times, and actually that familiarity adds one good thing to many others about this musical.

    A proposal by the state Department of Transportation to renumber exits along Route 6 and replace existing roadside exit signs with larger, overhead versions has local officials less than pleased. “What's most troubling is the fact that this seemed like a forgone conclusion when it was released to us,” said Barnstable Town Council President Jessica Rapp Grassetti, who learned of the DOT proposal at a Cape Cod Commission meeting on Monday. 1 comment
