    A 12-member army of medal chasing powerlifters is scheduled to depart Guyana today for Orlando, Florida, where they will compete for top honors in the July 3-8 annual NAPF/FESUPO North American, the Caribbean, and Pan-American Powerlifting Championships. Headlined by seasoned vets, John 'Big John' Edwards and Winston 'Little Master' Stoby, the team is a mix of young male and female talent and experienced gladiators.

    One of Guyana's most decorated powerlifters, John 'Big John' Edwards was the beneficiary of a timely sponsorship pact from the International Pharmaceutical Agency ahead of the NAPF/Caribbean and NAPF/FESUPO Powerlifting Championships scheduled for July 3-8 in Orlando, Florida. Edwards who owns the Caribbean Master's 2 120kg squat and bench press records, recently received the backing from the company in the form of supplements under the Universal brand and a cheque.

    On that day, the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation will team up with Bounty Farm Limited to stage an Open Deadlift Competition and a fund raising Bar-B-Q at the St. Stanislaus College Auditorium. Bar-B-Q tickets cost $1000 each, and athlete registration is listed at $2500 for the activity which is geared towards blanketing the cost for the national athletes to attend the Annual International Powerlifting Federation / North American Powerlifting Federation and Caribbean Championships slated for July 5-8 in Orlando, Florida.
