    With no fanfare or notice, the Maine Department of Transportation made good on its plans to switch the names of Route 166 and Route 166A in Castine, and to extend Route 166 from Castine through Penobscot and Orland to where it meets with Route 1 and 3. The route designation changes went into effect the second week of June. Street names and postal addresses for residents on all those roads have not changed, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

    Police have issued summonses to two men in connection with what they described as the unintentional shooting last month of a minivan parked in a local resident's driveway. Shaw Smith, 29, of Orland and Ryan Rossignol, 24, of Brewer each were charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony, and criminal mischief, a Class D misdemeanor.
