In a blow to abortion-rights activists, the S.C. Senate has passed a restrictive anti-abortion bill that would in most cases prevent women from terminating a pregnancy after 20 weeks. The "South Carolina Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,' passed March 8 in a 36-9 vote, would only provide exceptions in cases where the life of the mother was at stake, or if a doctor determines the fetus could not survive outside the womb from such things as severe fetal anomalies typically detected around 19-20 weeks. Comment?

Under a directive from President Obama on Monday, Lexington County is among a handful of S.C. counties declared a federal disaster area. The declaration makes people in the county eligible to apply to FEMA for federal assistance to cover losses that might not otherwise be covered by their insurance. Comment?
