    A 49-year-old Manistee man was killed Wednesday evening after he was involved in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 31. Deputies were dispatched around 9 p.m. for a report of a crash near Big Al's Pizza on U.S. 31 between Lakeshore Road and Hahn Road. Preliminary investigation determined the Manistee man was traveling north on U.S. 31 when a vehicle exited the Big Al's parking lot to head south on the highway.

The fire broke out at home on 8 Mile Road near Johnson Street in Onekama Township at about 9:37 a.m. Police said an 84-year-old resident of the home was pulled to safety by a private citizen and transported to West Shore Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The victim, Andrew John Vache, 33, of Maryland, died at West Shore Medical Center after he was pulled from the water, Manistee County Sheriff's Lt. Kenneth Falk said.
