Two weeks after the state announced a proposal to increase train and bus fairs, the Department of Transportation has adjusted the public hearing times to better accommodate commuters in the evening. The proposal includes increasing the Metro-North fare by 5 percent on the New Haven commuter rail line, including the New Canaan, Danbury and Waterbury branches, and Shore Line East effective Dec. 1. The proposal also includes increasing a standard one-way fare on the state-wide CTtransit services by 25 cents, bringing it from $1.50 to $1.75. Comment?

An electrical transformer exploded along the train tracks Thursday night, stalling train traffic and causing damage to a nearby building, WFSB reported. The TV station quoted local fire officials as saying the day's high temperatures were the likely cause of the 6 p.m. incident. Comment?
