    Animal welfare investigators are searching for the person responsible for leaving two dozen dead cats crammed into cages in an Oklahoma City field on June 10, OKCFox News reported June 15. The cages were reportedly discovered in the tall grass near a road, and officers believe that they were thrown from a vehicle while the cats were still alive. It's believed the cats were in the field about a week.

    A total of 24 cats apparently died from starvation and suffocation after they were stuffed into four pet carriers and abandoned in a field in sweltering Oklahoma City , according to a national animal welfare group. The carriers, which were found near the intersection of S. MacArthur Road and Newcastle Road, appear to have been thrown from a vehicle while the cats were still alive, the Humane Society of the United States said June 15. "Abandoning these animals to die a slow and excruciating death is a despicable act of animal cruelty ," said Cynthia Armstrong, the humane society's Oklahoma senior state director.
