    In the late 1920s, when many Alabamians were buying their first cars, families experienced their first road trips. U.S. Highway 280, then a two-lane road known as the Florida Short Route, was begun in the late '20s, and completed in the early 1930s to take residents from Birmingham to the Florida beaches, according to Talladega County resident L.C. Heath, age 74. The old Sinclair station shown here is located beside Highway 280 near Sylacauga and Oak Grove.
