Although similar to comic books because they use sequential art to tell a story, g raphic novels aren't a genre - they are a format which differs from traditional comic books because they are usually stand-alone stories with more complex plots which can be works of fiction, non-fiction, history or fantasyor another genre. The term graphic novel was first used in 1964, but became commonly used after the publication of A Contract with God in 1978.

On an errand run in Nyack, a community that constantly offers so many echoes and fragrances since it was my family's principal shopping destination on post-world War II Saturdays before suburbia began to roar and many big automobiles filled with families headed in formation to highway shopping strips and then the malls.

    This special edition of the Nyack Sketch Log celebrates the sundry jazz events available this summer from the Rockland Jazz and Blues Society, the Edward Hopper House Arts Center's Music in the Garden Series and an early offering from Rivertown Film! Because of a club on Main Street called The Office, Nyack's jazz scene was hot year round. From 1975 until 1980 jazz greats like Bill Evans and Jaco Pastorius were welcomed here to jam or gig.
