    Maine native Ben True, the 2017 race runner-up, and two-time U.S. Olympian Molly Huddle, the reigning American record holder in the women's 10,000-meter run, are among 46 professionals who will compete at the 21st TD Beach to Beacon 10K Aug. 4. "Ben is a homegrown hero, so it's going to be a treat to watch him try to reclaim his title, and having Molly in our race this year is truly special," Olympic gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson said in a press release. Samuelson founded the TD Beach to Beacon in her native Cape Elizabeth.

    With cool temperatures and intermittent rain showers providing favorable conditions for runners, 49-year-old Robert Ashby of Brunswick took home top honors in the 36th annual Sugarloaf Marathon on Sunday with a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes, 49 seconds. Maine runners were well-represented in the 15-kilometer race as well, with 30-year-old Jonny Wilson of Falmouth and 49-year-old Christine Hein of North Yarmouth crossing the finish line to win the men's and women's races in 47:07 and 57:37, respectively.

Facing a third-and-10, redshirt freshman quarterback Chris Ferguson completed a 45-yard pass across the middle to sophomore speedster Earnest Edwards and the drive eventually produced a two-yard touchdown run by Josh Mack that all but sewed up UMaine's 23-6 Colonial Athletic Association win over the offensively-anemic Tribe at Alfond Stadium.
