    The North Haven and Vinalhaven boys and girls high school basketball teams have waited much of the season to square off, and finally did on Friday, Jan. 30. The games were played early in the day in an attempt to beat the snow, which wiped out a full slate of games on the day, including the Vinalhaven teams' contests with Greenville. In the end it was the Vikings who swept the island doubleheader, with the boys earning a 51-42 win and the girls a 50-20 victory.

In the end, both Midcoast schools settled for a split as the Mariner girls picked up a 42-36 win at Rockland and the Mariner boys dropped a 70-57 decision at Bath.

    An Island Transporter vessel ferrying two large trucks to North Haven found itself in trouble Thursday morning, Dec. 11, when high winds and seas caused the two vehicles on board to roll over on their sides, according to Kyle Willette of the US Coast Guard. Willette said only minor injuries were suffered by a driver for a large concrete truck that tipped over on its side on the deck of the vessel.

    Fox I Printworks, a silk-screen and letterpress studio from North Haven, opened a pop-up shop on Rockland's Main Street Nov. 21. "After three summers of having a small gift store on the island, we're really excited to be branching out to the mainland for the holidays, and a pop-up was the perfect way to do it," said Sam Hallowell, co-owner of Fox I Printworks, in a press release. Hallowell was excited that he was able to get so many Maine makers on board, and hopes the Rockland location will be a one-stop shop for Maine-made holiday gifts.
