The Ninilchik Traditional Council has for years been seeking approval to use a more effective method for catching their subsistence allocation of sockeye salmon on the Kenai River and late last week, they got that opportunity. On July 27, the Federal Subsistence Board approved the tribe's emergency special action request to operate a community subsistence set net fishery on the Kenai. Comment?
BlueCrest Energy is continuing preparations to drill for oil in the Cosmopolitan Unit at its 37.5-acre site on the Cook Inlet bluff about 5.5 miles north of Anchor Point. Larry Burgess, health, safety and environmental manager for the Texas-based BlueCrest, told the Kenai Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday that the company's 3,000-horse power drilling rig is nearing completion in Houston, Texas. Public transit service is coming to the Kenai Peninsula soon, according to Ninilchik Traditional Council - the governing body for the Ninilchik Tribe. The Federal Transit Administration recently awarded the organization a $300,000 grant to get the service started for tribal members and the general public. Comment?
