On Dec. 18, the facility operator noticed blackened snow near the wastewater tank at the Tesoro facility during a nightly inspection, according to a Dec. 27 situation report from the Department of Environmental Conservation.

    Homer Middle School's boys and girls teams swept the borough championships for the first time in Husky history over the Dec. 17 weekend in Seward. The win for the girls came after a five or six year wait - the last time they picked up a borough championship was when 2016 Homer High School graduate Kayla Stafford was on the team, said HMS girls basketball head coach Zach Kudla.

The advisory committee had its first meeting last week in its new designation under Title VI of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act; it was formerly addressed under Title VII of the act's predecessor legislation, the No Child Left Behind Act.
