A committee has recommended several adjustments to the senior tax abatement program, including capping taxes for eligible seniors when they turn 75 and offering some relief to elderly people on the cusp of qualifying for the existing program.

    A Chicago operator of some 170 senior communities nationally has started construction of its proposed Church Hill Village home in Newtown, which will include more than 20 residences for people afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. Church Hill Village is being built on four acres of land at the corner of Church Hill Road and The Boulevard, a short distance west of Exit 10 of Interstate 84 and an easy walk to Newtown's central retail center.
