    According to investigators, a Newport News man took two men on a test drive of the car Sunday around 1:30 p.m. While driving down J. Clyde Morris Boulevard, one of the men pulled out a gun, forced the man from his vehicle and left him on the side of an overpass. The stolen vehicle is a black 1998 Cadillac Deville.

    Special victims unit detectives have arrested a Newport News man in relation to claims of abuse against his teenage daughters. The Newport News Police Department got a tip on March 2, 2014 that 39-year-old Jorge Manuel Torres was physically abusing one of his daughters, according to NNPD spokeswoman Holly McPherson.

    Battalion Chief Anthony Chittum with the Hampton Fire Department says they received the call about a suspicious package at Mill Point Drive and Miles Cary Mews, around 9:44 a.m. The caller said chemicals could be seen coming out of the package. Hampton Hazmat and Newport News EOD were called out to the scene and rendered the package safe.

    The Newport News man accused of taking two people into custody while impersonating a police officer appeared in Norfolk General District Court Monday. Kyle Paul Adams, 28, underwent a preliminary hearing and a bench trial for four felony charges and two misdemeanor charges related to an incident in November, according to Amanda Howie with the Office of the Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney.

    Newport News police are investigating a shooting Monday evening, less than 24 hours after a fatal shooting in the same area. Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department said there was a shooting in the 1500 block of Ivy Avenue around 5:45 p.m. She said the victim, a man in his twenties, was found in front of a residence and transported to a local hospital with a possible life-threatening injury in his upper body.
