Levi, a quarter horse and one of the original members of the Newport Beach Police Department Mounted Unit, died on Tuesday, July 18. The horse began working with his partner Officer Shawn Dugan on June 1, 2013 and had retired earlier this year, according to the department. "We are sad that Levi is no longer with us, but we know he lives on in the hearts and memories of all the people young and old who got to know him during his four years with the NBPD," the department said in a Facebook post.
