    Newberry's Howard Vroon has been named the Golf Pride Grips Southeast Region Coach of the Year for leading Newberry to a fifth-place finish at the 2017 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships. Vroon, who was named a finalist for the Dave Williams National Coach of the Year Award last month, skippered Newberry to arguably its best season ever.

    Former Newberry student-athlete Aubrey Mosley was one of five former South Atlantic Conference student-athletes and coaches inducted into the league's Hall of Fame at a Thursday evening banquet at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Greenville. Already a Newberry College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010, Mosley earned six all-South Atlantic Conference awards between her volleyball and golf careers and was the 2002 South Atlantic Conference Champion in golf.

"The Farm to Table dinner concept was something we have discussed in the past, and when we decided to defiantly take on the Ag+Art Tour, decided to participate in it, they encouraged each county to do a kick off event," said Executive Director Michelle Long.

"The hospital, every couple of years, does a Community Health Needs Assessment and this year's assessment indicated that Alzheimer's was one of the concerns from the people of Newberry County.

Law Enforcement Division arrested a Newberry man on Friday in connection with a May 31 confrontation in which shots were fired at three Newberry police officers who responded to gunfire in the area of Drayton Street. Glenn H. Boris, 41, was charged with three counts of attempted murder, a felony that carries a penalty upon conviction on each charge of up to 30 years in prison.
