According to Mayor Mitch Landrieu's office, the homeless population is down 80 percent in recent years, and city leaders plan to continue the trend by building a low-barrier homeless shelter in Central City to get more people into permanent housing.

Police say 23-year-old Lyndon Hawkins and his son 3-month-old Lyndon Hawkins Jr. were last seen on Friday, September 23. According to Hawkins' girlfriend, at about 10 p.m. he told her that he was on his way home with their son but he never returned to their home on Springsbrook Lane.
