There were 131 homicides in the city the first nine months of the year compared with 113 in 2014 and 749 armed robberies compared with 729 last year.

    A suit has been filed seeking to stop construction of a 190 foot hotel in the 100 block of Royal Street in the French Quarter. The Louisiana Landmarks Society, Smart Growth for Louisiana, the Preservation Resource Center, the Vieux Carre Property Owners and Residents and Associates, and French Quarter Citizens Inc., along with three individual French Quarter residents and/or business owners have filed for a preliminary injunction in Civil District Court to prevent the New Orleans City Council from further action in approving the development of a high-rise hotel, known as the Royal Cosmopolitan.

The U.S. State Department reports that 14 Syrian refugees have been resettled in Louisiana since the beginning of the year, seven in Kenner, six in New Orleans and one in Baton Rouge.

    A crime analyst for T he New Orleans Advocate reports that armed robberies have been increasing in the city of every year since 2010 and that the city is on pace to have 100 or more, this month alone. Consultant Jeff Asher reports there were over 90 armed robberies each month in August, September and October and the worst may be yet to come; Asher notes that December has averaged the most armed robberies of any month since 2010.
