According to the petition, "LA-SPCA "assessed" Leatrice and labeled her as vicious and un-adoptable, because she was FRIGHTENED, CONFUSED, AND RESPONDING AS ANY DOG IN HER POSITION WOULD BE EXPECTED TO REACT!" Tia Torres, director of Villalobos Rescue , a longtime internationally recognized pit bull rescue and rehabilitation facility was working with LA SPCA to move Leatrice into the Villalobos program which has rehabbed and saved thousands of pit bull and other strong breeds for over a quarter century.

    In late November, a terrified dog was discovered by a good Samaritan in an area of New Orleans, Louisiana, which is known to be a dumping area; the dog, described as a Cane Corso, was too frightened to move and Tia Torres, with the Villalobos Rescue Center, was contacted to assist. Also at the scene was an animal control officer with the Louisiana SPCA - as well as a group of concerned onlookers who were worried about the shaking, clearly frightened, dog's fate.
