    With a roster full of talented, but young, runners, Warde boys' and girls' cross country coach Tim Foster looked at the big picture and figured a top five finish might be the best his Mustangs teams could do against the big guns of the FCIAC. With just five seniors on the boys' side and seven on the girls, Foster has been relying on youthful exuberance and athleticism throughout the fall season, en route to a successful 15-3 mark with the boys' and a 14-4 record with the girls.

    After being banged around by two of the top teams in the state, New Canaan and Darien, the last couple of weeks, Warde finally did some banging of its own. Senior cornerback Jack Whiting came up with two interceptions, along with recovering a fumble, and the Mustangs used a goal line stand to hold Wilton in check and knock off the Warriors 14-7 Saturday afternoon at Fujitani Field.

Led by a defense that came up with an interception in the end zone along with a huge goal-line stand, the Mustangs snapped a two-game losing streak and defeated Wilton 14-7 Saturday afternoon at Fujitani Field.

    As the Ludlowe field hockey team celebrated its overtime winning goal against town-rival Warde, the Falcons girls' soccer team sat in the stands, watching it all unfold. And, about a half hour later, as they warmed up for their game against the Mustangs, they thought to themselves, `Why not us?' Ludlowe sophomore Clare Mengel netted the game's lone goal, a deflected 30-yard shot that somehow, found its way over Warde goalkeeper Mollie Kerrigan's outstretched arms and under the crossbar with just under 22 minutes to play, lifting the Falcons to an upset victory over the previously undefeated Mustangs Thursday night at Tetreau-Davis Field.
