    The railroad crossing on Route 32 at New Braintree Road will be closed this weekend and drivers will be asked to use a detour through New Braintree.  Northbound motorists can turn right on New Braintree Road, travel to West Road where they will turn left and follow that to Hardwick Road in New Braintree where they can turn left, cross Veterans Memorial Bridge and reach Route 32 North.  The closure will start at 7 a.m. Saturday, and the road will be shut down for at least 12 hours each day as crews work in the crossing. Police are asking drivers to adhere to the detour and to use caution in the area.

    BARRE - The Quabbin Regional School Committee Monday night adopted a fiscal year 2018 budget of $33.79 million, a 2.6 percent increase in current spending levels. Assessments to the five district towns based on the House Ways and Means budget represent an average 3.34 percent increase and will be sent to town treasurers in Barre, Hubbardston, Hardwick, Oakham and New Braintree for action at annual town meetings in May and June.
