    The Indiana Department of Transportation opened a final section of rebuilt roadway through Yellowwood State Forest Friday afternoon restoring traffic on Yellowwood Lake Road between the lake and Lanam Ridge Road at the north end of this 23,200-acre state recreation site east of Nashville. This year, INDOT - in conjunction with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources - constructed this 1.3-mile segment of gravel road north of the lake's parking lot, raising the grade and adding drainage structures.

    A 20-year-old Nashville woman has been charged with battery in connection to the death of her 7-month-old daughter, Indiana State Police said Friday. Anna Prewitt-Byers, 20 of Nashville, Indiana, was formally charged Thursday with a count of aggravated battery and a count of battery resulting in death of a person less than age 14. IU Health Bloomington hospital contacted the state Department of Child Services on April 18 when Michelle Dawn Vermaat was brought in for injuries, according to state police and the aunt of the baby's father.

A new bridge 3 miles east of Nashville on State Road 46, under construction since July, was completed two weeks early, in time to avoid what Brown County law-enforcement officials called "weekend nightmares" created by traffic to and from the IU/Kentucky football game, Chautauqua of the Arts in Columbus and the usual throng of fall guests at Brown County State Park.
