    Data firm Core Logic released its latest Bay Area home sales report on Thursday, compiling the total number of home sales across the nine counties for August and finding a nearly double digit decline. Although we should note that this is a difference of only 29 actual homes in all; the downward trend was consistent across almost the entire Bay Area: Only Napa and Marin County saw a year over year increase in home sales, up 8.7 and 4.1 percent for August respectively in the CoreLogic numbers.

    California's fire season has come roaring back after a brief period of calm with a new Napa County blaze that promoted evacuations over the weekend. The Snell Fire , located just southwest of Middletown, started Saturday afternoon, according to reports from Cal Fire, and by Saturday night it grew to an area of 1,700 acres that threatened some 180 structures.

    In July, the California state legislature considered a bill that would have granted state-sponsored bond money to PG&E in order to pay off potential damages from the 2017 wildfires -blazes that, according to Cal Fire , were started by the utility company's equipment. Now the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the bailout effort has burned out-at least for now-with State Sen. Bill Dodd of Napa telling the paper that the debate around the bill is simply too complicated and it won't be coming to a vote this session.

The NWS weekend forecast for the Bay Area shows strong winds and dry conditions pairing up to create particularly hazardous conditions: Dry northerly flow is forecast to develop over the North Bay during the day today with temperatures warming to above seasonal averages.

    In 2017, Governor Jerry Brown signed SB 35 , a new law that demands California cities build more housing or risk temporarily losing control of some of their permitting and entitlements processes. Few metros meet the state's regular Regional Housing Needs Assessments -hence the need for a law to motivate more building-but it wasn't until Friday, when the California Department of Housing and Community Development released the first assessment of cities that would be subject to the state's new "streamlining process," that the full extent of the law's scope became clear.
