    A 23-year-old Spring Lake woman should consider herself very fortunate to have escaped serious injury following a single-vehicle crash last night. According to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sergeant Jay Douglas, Skylar Brock was driving her older-model SUV northbound on M-231 near Sleeper Street around 6 PM and was attempting to pass a slower vehicle ahead of her on the two-lane highway when she lost control of her vehicle.

    A joyride for three Muskegon teens in a stolen car yesterday morning ended up with one of them in custody and two having to answer for their actions with their parents. According to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sergeant Brian Buter, OnStar contacted Central Dispatch just before 8 AM, saying that a grey 2016 GMC Yukon Denali had been stolen.

    According to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sergeant Matt Wildfong, Jonathan Hull was driving his van eastbound on Randall Street around 5:30 PM, and while attempting to pass a slower vehicle ahead of him, pulled into the westbound lanes and into the path of the westbound car of 42-year-old Lisa Fife of Muskegon. She swerved to avoid a head-on collision, but the van struck her vehicle on the rear right fender, and then, according to the Sergeant, "after impact, the van went off of the road, hitting a power pole, a park bench and a wooden bridge.

    A 45-year-old New Mexico woman spent part of her weekend on a hospital bed following a two-vehicle crash on Saturday evening. According to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sergeant Matt Wildfong, Jennifer Earnest of Truth or Consequences was driving a 1981 Ford van northbound on M-231 around 7:30 PM when she passed Lincoln Street.

    The National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids on Sunday afternoon issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Allegan and Ottawa counties, as well as the greater Grand Rapids, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Jackson areas. Beginning at 11 PM on Sunday and running through 7 PM on Monday, up to three inches of snow are expected, which could slicken roads.

According to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sergeant Cal Keuning, Alfred Smith pulled out into the path of Bobby Jewett's vehicle that was northbound on 112th Avenue near South Street around 5:30 PM and was struck broadside.

    The second of the two smokestacks at the old Sappi Fine Paper Mill in Muskegon fell to the ground just after 9:00 a.m. Sunday, October 1. The paper mill had sat empty for decades in hopes that it would be turned into a commercial property that would bring back life to the area.     Sgt. Cal Kuening of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says deputies were dispatched to Cleveland Street in the area of Krueger Street at about 5:32 p.m. 31-year-old Kail Aleman of Spring Lake was stopped on Cleveland Street waiting to turn into her driveway when she was rear-ended by 66-year-old Anita Rennells of Muskegon. Both women were injured in the crash and Aleman was transported to North Ottawa Community Hospital while Rennells was transported to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon for evaluation.
