    A bill that passed the Kentucky House and Senate would eliminate extra costs for local option elections if Gov. Matt Bevin signs it into law. House Bill 319, sponsored by Rep. Kenny Imes, R-Murray, would allow local option elections to be held simultaneously with primary and general elections.

    A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to close the existing US68/KY 80 Lake Barkley Bridge at Canton in Trigg County on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 14-15. The Lake Barkley Bridge at Canton is expected to close promptly at 9 a.m on Tuesday, Feb. 14, and remain closed for up to 48 hours to allow placement of the main arch span on the New Lake Barkley Bridge under construction just downstream from the existing bridge.

    According to police reports, Anthony Allen, 23, formerly of Herndon, was traveling south about 10:40 a.m. Saturday when his car ran off the road near the 1600 block of the Highway 121 North Bypass outside Murray. Allen's car crossed a business parking lot and hit a gas main before crashing head on into a tree.

    To celebrate the addition of four-lane traffic on the new U.S. 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hosted a bridge day event on the unopened eastbound lanes of the bridge today. While two-way traffic continued running on what will become the westbound lanes, an estimated crowd of 2,000 people walked along the new bridge to get an up close and personal look at the new structure.

    An investigation by U.S. marshals and deputies from McCracken and Marshall counties led to the arrests of three fugitives Wednesday at a Paducah motel. John H. Brown, 35, of Murray, was arrested on a Massac County, Illinois, fugitive warrant; Marshall County warrants for possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a defaced firearm; and Calloway County warrants for felony shoplifting and fleeing or evading police.
