    Murfreesboro Police say they plan to charge an underage Kroger employee with filing a false report after he claimed three men tried to kidnap him in the South Church Street store's parking lot Saturday afternoon. The employee initially told police he was gathering shopping carts outside the store when one of three men from a vehicle grabbed his arm, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department report.

The Murfreesboro City Council this summer approved a $169.7 million budget for the fiscal year that began July 1. The council asked city staff who prepare the budgets to work toward eliminating the municipality's reliance on using its reserve funds to balance the annual budget; officials have said that process could take three to five years.
