    Mount Prospect trustees this week authorized a settlement agreement with an Arlington Heights resident who had sued the village after she tripped and fell while walking on a village-owned public sidewalk in the 1800 block of Palm Drive. The village board on Tuesday approved the $250,000 settlement, even though, Village Manager Michael Cassady said, the actual rehabilitation expenses for Jacqueline Hallam amounted to $100,000.

    Mount Prospect residents stand to receive a very good deal on their garbage rates, said village board members who voted to extend its waste contract with the village's current provider, Republic Services. Public Works Director Sean Dorsey said at Tuesday night's village board meeting that the proposed rates for residential refuse collection and recycling are the lowest among the 23 communities affiliated with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County , which handles Mount Prospect's waste.

Meyn built the adjacent house after he married.     The Arlington Heights village board Monday delayed a vote on whether to opt out of two Cook County ordinances mandating that businesses pay employees for sick days and higher minimum wages, after a crowd rallied in support of the ordinances. A number of suburban municipalities, including Barrington, Mount Prospect and Rosemont, have already passed formal ordinances opting out of the Cook County rules, and Arlington Heights trustees were expected to take a vote to do the same Monday night.
