The Mississippi Secretary of State's office calls for those ceremonies to be held on the first Tuesday of July, but Ocean Springs City Clerk Shelly Ferguson explained the new term for elected city officials in Mississippi actually begins July 1. However, with July 1 falling on a Saturday this year and municipal offices across the county closed on July 1-4, the four cities have varying dates for their swearing-in ceremonies.

McWilliams had an ongoing dispute with Brown, which led to him killing Brown and leaving his body between two apartment buildings in Pascagoula.
