    With 41 towns suing their local nonprofit hospitals to shoulder the state's notoriously high property taxes, a state senator proposed a solution Thursday that would impose a bed tax and put a stop to future lawsuits. New Jersey's 58 nonprofit hospitals would be allowed to maintain their tax-exempt status, but pay the municipality where they are located $2.50 a day for each licensed bed they operate, according to the legislation Sen. Paul Sarlo introduced.
