    Detectives say it happened at 6:17 a.m. when they responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery and shooting at a residence in the 800 block of Lake Palourde Road. During their investigation, dispatch received a second call from Teche Regional Medical Center regarding a male victim being treated for a gunshot wound to the upper torso, according to St. Mary Parish PIO Tracy Landry.

    According to Broussard's Chief of Police, Brannon Decou on July 3, an officer while conducting a traffic stop in the 5600 block of US HWY 90, detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and noticed a suspicious package. According to a news release, the officer questioned the driver who was identified as Gentry Dugas, 34, of Morgan City, about the odor and the package which resulted in Dugas grabbing the package and attempting to run away.

    A federal jury found a man from Patterson guilty in a scheme to use stolen identities to file false tax returns and pocket refunds. United States Attorney Stephanie A. Finley announced today that a Louis W. Carbins Jr., 36, of Patterson, La., was found guilty of one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States, seven counts of theft of government money and one count of aggravated identity theft.

Finley announced today that the former director of the Morgan City Housing Authority and a former employee pleaded guilty to charges related to theft of more than a half a million dollars. Charles E. Spann, 78, of Kingsport, Tenn., and Tori D. Johnson, 38, of Morgan City, La., pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carol B. Whitehurst to one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States.
