    The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District is starting school two hours late at four schools in the Seward area Monday due to "winter weather conditions" in the area. According to the district's Facebook page, buses will run up to two hours late for the affected schools: the Moose Pass School, Seward Elementary School, Seward Middle School and Seward High School.

    The 2015 U.S. Capitol Christmas tree was felled Tuesday afternoon on the outskirts of this Southcentral Alaska harbor community, the first step of a 6,000-mile journey that will eventually take it to the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington. The 74-foot Lutz spruce, a hybrid between a Sitka and white spruce, hails from the Chugach National Forest, the country's most northern and western national forest.

    A forecast for an unusually strong late-summer windstorm starting today has the National Weather Service issuing wind warnings for Seward, Moose Pass, Whittier , Girdwood and Valdez. The weather service writes in the warning that "a strong upper level disturbance" originating in the Arctic will dive southward across Southcentral Alaska.
