    The Lee County Sheriff's Office is looking for a Monroe County woman in connection with a bad check passed at a Mooreville business. According to Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson, a stolen check was passed at a Mooreville business on June 14. The owner of The Alley 662, a fashion clothing business near the four-way stop, reported a female came into the store and purchased $587 in merchandise and paid with a personal check.

    A Lee County man who prompted police pursuits in 2014 and 2016 died in a prison hospital last weekend, three months after pleading guilty to four felonies. John Wesley Newell, 54, formerly of Mooreville, died Sunday, May 21 at the Mississippi State Penitentiary hospital in Parchman, according to Mississippi Department of Corrections communications director Grace Fisher.

    After surrendering a three-run lead in the bottom of the seventh Thursday, Mooreville responded with a run in the eighth to win the MHSAA 3A state baseball championship. The Troopers defeated Seminary 6-5 to complete a sweep of the championship series at Trustmark Park and give Mooreville its ninth state title and first since 2005.
