    Monroeville Mall executives today announced plans to install a new set of security cameras that will monitor a larger section of the shopping center, the latest in a set of changes following several violent crimes there earlier this year and late last year. Lance Ivy, regional director of CBL & Associates Properties Inc., the company that owns the mall, said at a morning news conference that his company plans to install a "state-of-the-art" security system that places cameras inside the mall common areas and outside the mall.

    Monroeville has hired special counsel to join a class action lawsuit against Verizon for franchise fees the municipality said it did not receive. Council voted unanimously to have Cohen Law Group and Carlson, Lynch, Sweet and Kilpela LLP, both of Pittsburgh, represent the municipality in a class action claim against Verizon, including its affiliates and subsidiaries, for what Monroeville says is Verizon's failure to pay certain franchise fees owed to the municipality.
