    The University of Louisiana Monroe has reached a major milestone by being recognized as one of the state's six doctoral-granting institutions of higher education. The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education , "the leading framework for recognizing and describing institutional diversity in U.S. higher education for the past four and a half decades," has classified ULM as an "R3" doctoral university; the university joins the ranks of 109 other universities across the U.S and only 5 other universities within the state.

Jimmie Lane Williams Jr., 27, of 5505 Conrad Drive, Monroe, was arrested Tuesday after Crime Stoppers of Union Parish released photographs Monday of Williams and Josephine Nash, 33, to the media late Monday.
