    A vehicle passenger was arrested Friday after a deputy from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office found a loaded handgun and several small baggies containing a white crystalline substance in the vehicle, authorities said. Grayson Scott Hamlett, 46, of Moneta was charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a firearm while in possession of a Schedule I or II drug and possession of marijuana following a traffic stop in the Westlake area of Franklin County, according to a release.

    A man and a woman were arrested Friday afternoon at a Rocky Mount motel after deputies were called to investigate the odor of marijuana and later discovered a meth lab in their room, officials said. Henry Eric Routon, 43, of Callaway and Brittany Danielle Nichols, 30, of Moneta were arrested by the Franklin County Sheriff's Department and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule II drug-methamphetamine.

    A contracted flagger for the Virginia Department of Transportation was struck by a vehicle on Route 122 about 500 feet north of Black Rock Road, Route 621 Monday at 12:20 p.m. Stacy Lee Hopkins, 22, of Martinsville was working off of the right shoulder of Booker T. Washington Highway when he was struck by a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Mary Madison Gauthier, according to state police. Gauthier, 22, of Moneta, was traveling southbound on Route 122 when she hit a 2005 Cadillac DeVille, ran off the road and collided with the pedestrian.

    Police are investigating to determine whether the same pickup that ran someone off the road in Moneta also forced a fire truck responding to that wreck to go off the road. The Bedford County Fire and Rescue issued a news release that said a camera mounted to the fire engine recorded the incident and that Virginia State Police are investigating.

    A 64-year-old Moneta man who was convicted in March of a sex offense involving a minor was sentenced to serve 3 A1 2 years in prison last week in Franklin County Circuit Court. Roger Lee Crouch was charged late last year with sexual battery, attempted sodomy and indecent liberties, following an incident in August.
