We're up to nearly a quarter of the electorate having cast a ballot so far with 7,045 early and absentee voters having turned out.

    Douglas County public library staff, Maggie Rusmisel, sitting, Sonjia Wahab and Mark Gruver invite the community to a sing-along on Thursday in an attempt to set a record for the most people statewide singing the state song at the same time. At 10 a.m. the library will join others across Nevada attempting to set a record for the most people in an American state to sing their state song at the same time.

    Feathers flew as an excavator took huge bites out of the 121-year-old East Fork Hotel on Monday morning as residents and officials looked on. Gardnerville's oldest commercial building was reduced to rubble by Minden firm Sierra View Equipment, which received a permit from the county on Oct. 15. It has been nearly 11 months since a Nov. 30, 2013, farewell party celebrating the history of the Gardnerville landmark, built in 1893 by George Brown.

    Gardnerville's oldest commercial building is rubble this morning after contractors took down the East Fork Hotel on Monday. Minden firm Sierra View Equipment is the contractor for the work, according to the demolition permit, which was issued on Oct. 15. On Monday, 567 Douglas County residents voted early and 81 turned in their absentee ballots.
