    The Clark County YWCA has received a $5,600 grant to convert a domestic violence shelter into a pet-friendly haven for victims. The YWCA is partnering with the Humane Society of Southwest Washington and the Mill Plain Animal Hospital to provide the pets belonging to shelter residents with veterinary care and supplies.

    The agency recently received $5,600 from the Red- Rover Safe Housing Grant Program to convert the shelter to a pet-friendly safe haven. The change went into effect July 1. YWCA is also teaming up with The Humane Society for Southwest Washington and the VCA East Mill Plain Animal Hospital to provide shelter residents' pets veterinary care, supplies and alternative shelter for pets with extra needs.

    What were they smoking when they designed the 18th Street/Mill Plain exit off Interstate 205? It starts over a mile north of Mill Plain and ends up in the same old three lanes for the turns. The only thing I can see in its favor is that it pretty much eliminates a mile-long exit backup on the freeway.

    Starting at 5 a.m. Saturday, drivers planning to exit southbound Interstate 205 onto Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard will have to look for their exit much earlier than before.
