    A woman found dead at a residence near Middleport on Wednesday died of a suspected overdose according to the Meigs County Sheriff's Office. Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood stated that Jacqueline Lynn Petrie, 53, was found dead on a bed in the residence located at the intersection of Bradbury Road and Noble Summit Road near Middleport.

    The Gallia Meigs Community Action Agency is reminding customers that it still has assistance for heating utilities with its Winter HEAP program to assist customers with their main heating utility and/or furnace repair. Gallia Meigs C.A.A.'s Emergency HEAP Program started on Nov. 1, 2017, and will continue through March 31. All clients can contact the agency through the new automated system for making appointments.

    A Syracuse man was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to several charges on Monday in Meigs County Common Pleas Court. Michael L. Hammon Sr., 35, pleaded guilty to second-degree felony aggravated arson and fourth-degree felony trespass in a habitation, as well as misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and two counts of aggravated menacing.

Mary Miller, president of Inclusions, shared the dance is open to individuals with developmental disabilities and their family members and/or caregivers above the age of 18. She said the cost of entrance into the dance is either $3 or a non-perishable food item.

    A Middleport resident and the last suspect in the Rothgeb death investigation pleaded guilty to six felony charges in mid-December, among which involved escape charges, abuse of a corpse and more, for a total of 12 years in a state facility. Lacey Young, 30, was one of three individuals indicted based upon an investigation into the death of Terry "Shag" Rothgeb, then 55, of Gallipolis last year by the Gallia Sheriff's Office.

    Middleport Police Chief Bruce Swift reported that during the early morning hours of Jan. 6, officers with the Middleport Police Department, agents of The Major Crimes Task Force of Gallia and Meigs counties, and the Meigs County Sheriff's Office, conducted a search warrant in the 200-block of Mill Street in Middleport. Kevin W. Harris, 35, and Charles A. Landers, 30, both of Middleport were arrested and charged with possession and trafficking in drugs.
