    Limestone County commissioners court made another attempt to finalize the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1. Limestone County Judge Daniel Burkeen, who writes the county's initial budget, began the second budget work session, held Aug. 9, by telling commissioners he did not think this was a good time for raises beyond those already agreed upon for all Road and Bridge employees and for all the deputies. "This is a bad year; there's no money available," Burkeen said.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, Aug. 7, and began with Cox and Corporal Ruben Esquivel discovering an outdoor party at the intersection of State Hwy.

    As Limestone County commissioners court works on a budget for the upcoming fiscal year, the commissioners find themselves in the same situation as they have past several years: trying to find places to cut as revenues continue to shrink. The court held its first budget workshop Aug. 3, and after County Judge Daniel Burkeen went over many areas of modest cuts and a few increases, he and the commissioners agreed that with property valuations down significantly, the tax rate will have to increase just to keep the revenue amount the same as last year.
