Alfred "Nene" is survived by his wife of 19 years, Henrietta; his children, Frank Alvarez and wife, Cathy; Diane Bergsneider and husband, Larry; Sylvia Inzunza; and Henry Alvarez and wife, Angella; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and close friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Presciliano Fernandez; mother, Anastacia Campos Fernandez; first wife, Frances Fernandez; siblings, Joe Meyer, Margaret Westerdahl, P.C. Fernandez, Rudy Fernandez, Ruben Fernandez, and Henry Fernandez.

He started his career with the United State Postal Service as a mail carrier in Mesa, then worked as a supervisor for the Chandler Post Office before becoming the Postmaster in Superior.
