    Sheriff's deputies found the body of 44-year-old Gilbert Garcia Garces of Progreso near a levee off Farm-to-Market 491, south of Mercedes, on Thursday, April 7, at about 7:30 p.m. A preliminary examination of Garces' body indicated a gunshot wound and the manner of death was ruled a homicide, according to Sgt. J.P. Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office.
