    It's not too late to register for classes at Mendocino College, and several new agriculture certification programs offer a cornucopia of possibilities for career-seeking students or backyard gardeners and enologists. The college's agriculture department recently developed several Certificates of Achievement: Sustainable Small Farms, Landscape Practices, Nursery Production and Viticulture Skills, alongside the department's Associate of Science Degree in Agriculture/Horticulture, according to Jim Xerogeanes, director/instructor for the Mendocino-Lake Community College District's Agriculture Department.

    A proposed roundabout at Low Gap Road and North Bush Street has been de-funded as part of steep decline in the amount of money available for transportation projects due to lower gas prices. “The roundabout proposed for Low Gap and Bush is on hold until 2018 at the soonest,” Mayor Steve Scalmanini told the Ukiah City Council Wednesday, explaining that the Mendocino Council of Governments de-funded that project and three others because of about $750 million being cut from the State Transportation Improvement Program .

Marc Blakeman, AT&T vice president of external affairs for California, and Rhuenette Alums, area director of external affairs for the North Coast, said the company is working on a “fiber ring” that would hopefully address the issue of when a line goes down.

    A recent poll of local residents reveals that than 80 percent of those contacted in Mendocino County believe the condition of the area's streets and roads are “a serious problem.” Commissioned by the Mendocino Council of Governments , the poll was conducted by William Berry Campaigns via telephone calls made between Jan. 6 and Jan. 19. According to MCOG Director Phil Dow, there were a total of 700 people reached in “all sectors of Mendocino County.” Of those surveyed, 400 lived in unincorporated areas of Mendocino County and nearly 80 percent of those residents reportedly considered “the state of repair of the county road system as a serious problem.” Another 300 people in Ukiah were also surveyed, and of those more than 88 percent believed local street conditions to be a serious concern.
