Madhava Reddy was driving a 2018 Mercedes Benz in the middle lane of the eastbound Long Island Expressway near exit 49, when he was struck from behind by a 2016 Nissan driven by Eric Preto. His wife Gabriella Preto and their 2-year-old son were also in the vehicle.

    November 20, 2018 - Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Melville on Monday, November 19. A man was on Route 110, approximately 150 feet north of Amityville Road, when he appeared to step into the roadway and was struck by a 2004 Honda CRV traveling northbound at approximately 7:15 p.m. The man, who has yet to be identified by police, was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Honda, Constance Schwartz, 87, of Melville remained and the scene and faces no charges.

A 28-year-old man was driving a 2000 Subaru Legacy southbound on Walt Whitman Road when his vehicle collided with a 2016 Mercedes Benz Sprinter, which was westbound on Express Drive North, at approximately 5:15 a.m. The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Highway Patrol officers responded to a report of a multi-vehicle crash on the eastbound Long Island Expressway near Exit 49N in Melville at approximately 10:22 p.m. Eastbound traffic was slowing down due to an earlier car fire near Exit 49. Two cars collided, setting off a chain reaction involving eight vehicles in total, including an oil tanker truck.
