    The Medical Lake City Council adopted its 2016 budget at their final meeting in 2015 on Dec. 15, but not before a little rearranging of their agenda. The council voted to move consideration of the second reading of the city's ordinance setting the salaries and compensation for city employees and appointed officers for 2016 from the end of the meeting to the beginning after hearing from former council member Lahnie Henderson.

    It was another busy week for the Cheney High wrestling team who earned a nonleague victory over West Plains rival Medical Lake, 43-33, Dec. 15, and had four wrestlers finish in the top 5 at the Cadet Classic, Dec. 19 in Yakima. Being down 12-0 to the Cardinals, the Blackhawks picked up three consecutive wins, including Zack Nguyen's 9-4 decision at 132 pounds and pins from Cameron Wiseman and Francisco Martinez .

    A two-car collision Dec. 7 on State Route 902 involved two West Plains' individuals and sent a Medical Lake woman and her passenger to the hospital. According to a Washington State Patrol news release, just after 10 p.m., a 2010 Honda Civic driven by Darby M. Evans, 19, of Medical Lake was westbound on SR 902 approaching the Craig Road intersection.

    Slow starts and finishes did in the Medical Lake girl's basketball team in a pair of games last week. The Cardinals dropped a nonleague contest 48-27 to Lind-Ritzville-Sprague Dec. 8 and then lost their Northeast A League opener to Freeman, 46-30, Friday, Dec. 11. In both games offense was slim in the first and fourth quarters, which decided each outing.

Instead, the Cardinals 45-21 loss to the Scotties was a successful display of where Medical Lake is headed in the sport, head coach Josh Edmondson said.
