    With most of its vehicles either destroyed or unfixable, the Medical Lake City Council passed an emergency resolution April 19 that will allow the Maintenance Department to get back on its feet when it comes to upkeep and repairs around the city. In declaring an emergency, the resolution legally allows the city to waive the competitive public bidding process used most of the time in lieu of finding the best deals possible to replace up to six city vehicles.

    Among other things, Medical Lake head softball coach Tim Blakely learned last week that the Northeast A League's perennial power, Lakeside, has not necessarily reloaded, but retooled. After a big-bats victory, 15-5, April 18 against Riverside , Medical Lake saw its modest three-game winning streak getting thumped by Lakeside April 21, 10-0 in six innings and 16-3, a contest that went the distance.

    Medical Lake fire and emergency crews were busy in the early morning hours of April 15. Prior to discovering fire had consumed the inside of the city's maintenance shop, the Fire Department responded to a house fire at 703 E. Barker Road. Fire Chief Jason Mayfield said the call came in at 1:45 a.m. Two trucks from Medical Lake and a crew from Airway Heights responded and managed to contain the fire to the interior of the structure.
