    Medford police do not think a recent shooting that took the life of a 34-year-old man was intentional, but they do allege the man holding the gun when it went off "acted recklessly with extreme indifference to human life." Investigators have charged 23-year-old Vincent Santana DiCostanzo with first-degree manslaughter in the death of Luke Adrian-Heiner Barmes, according to a news release.

    As part of the “hundred year tune-up,” scaffolding and netting have been placed around the Carter Memorial Fountain on Ashland's Plaza so it can be stripped, sanded and repainted in preparation for the arrival of the new bronze Pioneer Mike statue that should stand atop it by the Fourth of July. The much-loved drinking fountain and statue have long stood at the center of pedestrian and vehicular traffic - and suffered from it, with vandals climbing the fountain and ripping the flintlock gun out of his hands more than once.

    A jury has acquitted the former owner of a Little Caesars pizza shop in Ashland of all counts in an arson conspiracy trial. Medford resident Mark Alan McAlister, 52, faced three counts of conspiracy to commit arson after investigators alleged he asked handyman Brian Vernon Morris to break a natural gas line, leave a candle burning and try to burn or blow up the pizza shop on the back side of the Market of Choice grocery complex in February 2014.

    As a strong supporter of our local bus service, the Rogue Valley Transportation District , I've been riding buses recently, chatting to bus riders and taking photos of those who give me permission to post them on Rogue Valley Transit Now's Facebook page. If voters pass the measure, RVTD will add back Saturday service, which had to be eliminated a couple of years ago because a grant that paid for it ran out and it is something so many bus riders want restored.

If passed in the May 17 primary election, Measure 15-141 would tax Jackson County property owners 13 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, or about $26 a year on a $200,000 house.

    There were not enough seats to sit in or even walls to lean as the Transportation Commission saw proposals to build a bridge over Bear Creek to join east and west Nevada Street on Thursday night in the Ashland Council Chambers. The overwhelming response from neighbors of the proposed project was either to urge not doing it at all or to do it partially with a foot and bike bridge - with no provision for cars, trucks or buses.
