    Police have charged 19-year-old Erik Duran of McMinnville in connection with the Monday, Aug. 3 shooting of a McMinnville resident in the area of Northwest Second and Fenton streets. Duran is charged with one count each of attempt to commit murder and first-degree assault, both Class A felonies, in addition to one count of unlawful use of a weapon, a Class C felony, according to court records.

    A 20-year-old Latino man was shot in the leg about 10:45 p.m. Monday night on Second Street. McMinnville police said the victim, whom they declined to immediately identify, was transported by McMinnville Fire Department ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center.

Evans St. Steward, who spent most of his more than 30 years in the community working at First Federal, died June 6 at the age of 69. He would have celebrated his 70th birthday Aug. 7. He was active in the community and involved in many fundraising projects. He helped organize golf tournaments to raise money for Kids on the Block, and volunteered to cook turkeys at Turkey Rama for several years.

    An inmate serving 12 1/2 years for stabbing his father and stepmother repeatedly and slashing his father's throat is now facing charges alleging sex acts with a girl under the age of 14. Martin Mojica-Penaloza of McMinnville has been indicted by a Yamhill County grand jury on three counts each of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse, a mix of Class A and B felonies. It's alleged Mojica committed sexual acts with the victim, who is under 14, in May 2006, June 2008, June 2009 and June 2010.
