He was born July 16, 1944, a son of the late John R. and Helen Flading Sr. John was a member of St. James Catholic Church, McMechen, a U. S. Navy Vietnam veteran who served with the VQ Squad during the war, and a member of the American Legion Post 46. He started his working career at Wheeling Continental Can Company, and then moved on to a position with National Cash Register.
