Known for building or restoring homes, Habitat in the Mayville/Westfield area will focus on 35 Backman Avenue beginning at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday, April 22, and will work until 12:30 a.m. according to Mike Ricketts, Habitat board member and volunteer coordinate.

The honorees were Madison Dudley of Chautauqua Lake Central School; Sydnee Abele of Westfield Academy and Central School; Kasen Jewell of Brocton Central School; and Thomas Johnston, who represented Brocton Central School for the month of February, and who could not previously attend to receive his honor.

In 2016, 318 students from 13 different schools participated in the contest.     Village of Sherman trustees agreed at their meeting on Feb. 1 to repair and use their current sidewalk plow for another year in lieu of using available USDA loan funds to purchase a new one. Department of Streets Supervisor Doug Crane reminded the board that the village still has $53,500 in USDA funds available, which would be in the form of a $10,000 grant and a $43,500 low interest loan.

Top overall finishers of this charity event, which was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville, were as follow: Jason Almeter , top male youth and overall first place, with a time of 19:46; Noreen See , top female adult, 24:22; Matthew Damcott , top male adult, 24:46; and Katie Almeter, top female youth, 30:00. About his race experience, Jason Almeter said, "I participated in the race because I love to run and compete against others.
